COACHES AND CAMPS
The few trainer and camp details that sources document.
The training histories of Lethwei coaches are largely undocumented in the sources we can check. This page sets out only the few trainer and camp details those sources state, and nothing more.
Kyar Ba Nyein
Kyar Ba Nyein took part in boxing at the 1952 Summer Olympics and is described as a pioneer in modernizing Lethwei. He drew up the modern rules and regulations that have been used since 1953. He went around Burma, especially to the Mon and Karen states, where many villagers were actively training in Lethwei. He brought some fighters back to Mandalay and Yangon, trained them with the new methods, and encouraged them to fight in matches he had organized around the country.
Thut Ti Lethwei Gym and Lone Chaw
Win Zin Oo was the camp owner and promoter at Thut Ti Lethwei Gym. Lone Chaw joined it around 2012 as head trainer and teacher, and eventually left to form his own camp.
Tun Tun Min's Start
Tun Tun Min was born in a remote village in Mon State and is the second eldest son of the Lethwei fighter U Tun Tun Zaw. He began training at the age of six, with sandbags and rudimentary equipment that his father had bought him, and was introduced to the sport by his grandfather and father, both well-known former Lethwei fighters in Mon State. He joined the Mudontha Lethwei Club, founded in 2008 by Saya U Ye Thway, U Thamain Thawdar and his father. A source from November 2017 describes him as starting to coach and train at Fit & Fight Fitness & Lethwei, a newly opened facility in Yangon that partly carried his name; this page documents nothing more recent about it.
An earlier version of this page described coaching traditions and certification structures. None of that could be sourced, so it has been removed rather than rewritten.
