Context: why this rivalry mattered

Dave Leduc, a Canadian fighter, and Tun Tun Min, who won the Openweight Lethwei Golden Belt in 2014 at age 21, met three times between 2016 and 2018. The series settled who held the Golden Belt and produced the highest-viewership bout in Lethwei history.

Fight I — 9 October 2016 — Draw

The first meeting was held on 9 October 2016 at the GTG International Challenge Fights card in Yangon. Tun Tun Min dominated the early rounds; Leduc came back later in the fight. The bout ended in a draw. Tun Tun Min said afterwards that he had trouble with Leduc's distance control.

Fight II — 11 December 2016 — Leduc wins the Golden Belt

The rematch, on 11 December 2016 at the Air KBZ Aung Lan Championship in Yangon, had Tun Tun Min's Openweight Golden Belt on the line. Leduc targeted Tun Tun Min's leg with push kicks. In round 3, Leduc caught a high kick from Tun Tun Min, who twisted his knee on the landing and had to take his two-minute injury time-out. After another throw, Tun Tun Min forfeited in round 3.

The result was a TKO by forfeit, and Leduc took the Golden Belt — becoming the first non-Burmese fighter to hold it.

Fight III — 16 December 2018 — Draw, Leduc retains

The trilogy fight, billed "The Biggest Fight in Lethwei History", took place on 16 December 2018 at a sold-out Thein Pyu Stadium in Yangon. Leduc knocked Tun Tun Min down with an elbow in round 1. Tun Tun Min used his two-minute injury time-out and continued. Five rounds passed without another knockdown, and under traditional rules the bout was scored a draw, so Leduc retained the Golden Belt.

The bout drew a cumulative audience of 37 million — the highest viewership in Lethwei history.

What the trilogy settled

Leduc took the Golden Belt from Tun Tun Min in the second meeting and kept it through the draw in the third. The series produced Lethwei's highest-viewership broadcast and is the clearest documented case of the belt changing hands to a non-Burmese fighter.
